Everything you need to know about custom bar coasters
Custom bar coasters are absorbent pulpboard drink coasters printed with your logo, artwork, or message. They do the everyday job of protecting the bar top and soaking up condensation — and while they do it, they hold your brand inches from every guest’s glass for the length of a drink. For breweries, bars and restaurants, wedding hosts, beverage brands, and hotels, that makes the humble coaster one of the cheapest pieces of table-level advertising you can print.
Because coasters are printed to order, the right specification depends on how they’ll be used: a busy taproom wants a heavyweight board that survives a full night of service, while a one-day event can run a lighter stock and put the budget into quantity. This guide covers the standard sizes and shapes, the pulpboard thicknesses (measured in points), one- versus two-sided printing, full-bleed color, how ordering works, and how bulk pricing scales. A branded coaster works twice — bar protection and marketing
A plain white coaster is furniture. A custom bar coaster printed with your logo, tap list, QR code, or event artwork is a message your guest holds, reads, and often takes home. It sits directly in the sightline of someone who is seated, relaxed, and looking down at their drink — attention most advertising can’t buy.
Table-level branding
Every drink served puts your logo in front of a seated guest for minutes at a time. Add a QR code linking to your menu, loyalty signup, or seasonal release.
Genuinely absorbent
Thick pulpboard wicks condensation and spills instead of smearing them, keeping bar tops dry and glassware from sticking or sliding.

Bar coaster sizes and thicknesses: what should you order?
Nearly every coaster order comes down to two decisions: the footprint — 3.5" or 4", round or square — and the board thickness, measured in points (1pt = 1/1000"). Thicker board absorbs more, lasts longer in service, and feels more premium in the hand. Here’s how the standard options compare.
Pulpboard thickness compared
60pt heavyweight is the taproom standard; 80pt extra-thick is the premium board brands reach for when the coaster itself is the keepsake.
Coaster footprint by size
A 4" square gives you roughly 65% more print area than a 3.5" round — worth it for tap lists, event schedules, or QR codes with supporting text.
| Thickness | Feel & durability | Best for | Budget fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 35pt Light | Flexible, single-service board | One-day events, high-volume promos, inserts | Lowest per-piece cost |
| 60pt Popular | Rigid, highly absorbent, holds up through a full night | Breweries, bars & restaurants, hotels | Best value for venues |
| 80pt | Extra-thick, premium hand-feel, maximum absorbency | Beverage brand launches, weddings, keepsakes | Premium tier |
Absorbent pulpboard that keeps your artwork crisp
Our coasters are made from high-density pulpboard — the same soft, blotter-style paperboard used by breweries for over a century. It’s engineered to wick moisture into the board instead of letting it pool, so glasses don’t stick and bar tops stay dry. Pulpboard is made with recycled fiber content, and because it’s uncoated paper, spent coasters are compostable and recyclable.
Artwork is printed full-bleed, edge to edge, with no white border unless your design calls for one. You can print one side and keep the back plain, or print both sides — a logo up top and a tap list, drink special, QR code, or wedding date on the flip side. Two-sided printing costs a little more per piece but doubles your message space on the same board.
- Absorbent pulpboard core — wicks condensation, keeps glassware planted
- Recycled fiber content — compostable, recyclable, uncoated stock
- Full-bleed printing — edge-to-edge color with no white margin
- One- or two-sided — plain back, or a second full-color design
- Three board weights — 35pt light, 60pt heavyweight, 80pt extra-thick
- Crisp, saturated color — fine text, halftones, and photo art print cleanly
Make the coaster unmistakably yours
Round or square
Classic 3.5" and 4" circles and squares — the formats that fit standard coaster caddies, bar rails, and table settings.
Die-cut custom shapes
Bottle silhouettes, hop leaves, hexagons, your logo’s outline — custom die-cutting turns the coaster itself into the design.
One- or two-sided print
Single-sided for clean branding on a budget, or two-sided to pair your logo with a menu, promo, QR code, or event details.
Board thickness
35pt for high-volume giveaways, 60pt heavyweight for nightly service, 80pt extra-thick for premium launches and keepsakes.
Multiple designs per run
Split an order across several artworks — a four-design series for your core taps, or table numbers for a wedding — priced as one run.
Bulk quantities
From a few hundred for a private event to hundreds of thousands for a distributor campaign, with per-piece pricing that drops as volume climbs.
Design approaches that work on a bar coaster
A coaster is small, viewed up close, and usually seen in dim bar light — so bold, high-contrast design wins. These are the looks we print most, and where each one fits:

One coaster, many jobs
How custom coaster pricing works
Custom bar coasters are priced per piece, and the per-coaster price falls fast as quantity climbs — most of the cost of a run is in setup, not paper. Your quote comes down to four things: board thickness, size and shape (die-cut shapes add a one-time tooling step), one- vs. two-sided printing, and total quantity. Reorders of the same design skip setup and cost less.
